How to do a drug addiction intervention for a family member?

Having a family member who is an addict is very difficult. They might be able to hide the addiction successfully for a very long time or you might be ignoring it thinking that they will get better. As a responsible family member, you should not delude yourself. If you feel that a parent or a child is now actively using drugs, you will have to stage a drug addiction intervention and the quicker the better.

What happens during a drug intervention?
Right off, let’s get it clear that it’s not going to be easy. A drug intervention is a very carefully planned event where family, friends, counselors and if required a responsible member of the community can get together and show the addict what he or she is doing. It is going to be a confrontation of sorts as no one likes to be told that they are sick. Family members will have to provide specific examples where the addict carried out dangerous behavior which could have affected the entire family. At the family intervention, you have to ask the addict to accept the fact that he is an addict and to start treatment for the problem. Family members will also have to be supportive but firm in stating that treatment will be required and if the addict does not get treatment; a much harsher alternative will be tried to break the addiction.

Will drug intervention programs work?
Planning is the backbone for an effective intervention program. You will have to coordinate with family members and plan out a day and time when the addict will be at home for the family intervention. You will have to proof about addiction which cannot be refuted and specific consequences like cutting off account access, moving out with the children have to be planned before the actual event. Addicts are frequently in denial and drug intervention programs can very easily turn ugly. The addict might be so into his addiction that the completely opposite effect may happen. The addict might swear off his entire family and friends and move out to delve deeper into his obsession. They might also try to delay treatment in an effort to avoid the recovery program. They might try to borrow money from other family members in an effort to continue their lifestyle. As a result, having a professional at the intervention program is absolutely necessary. A professional counselor will be able to deal with all the excuses and reasons that an addict provides and he will ensure that all family members are sticking to the intervention program.

On the other hand the addiction to these drugs have their own effects on the life of the person addicted and besides that it can also give birth to other problems like, crime, violence, reckless driving, accidents, unprotected sensual behavior or can even cause death.

Therefore as the treats of substance abuse are such a threat to the modern society so it is essential to take immediate steps to control it or else there are chances of great dangers awaiting the whole society in near future. But the fact is that to start the fight against the problem of substance abuse the most essential thing needed is to find the proper cure for the ones already addicted to this problem and for that there is no better option that the substance abuse rehab centers. In fact there are several rehab centers already available but the main thing is to have the proper choice of them. The choice of the rehab center for the proper cure of the addiction patients is the most important factor for the reason that the effects if the addiction to these drugs is not only a physical problem, rather it is a problem that also poses threat to the mental balance and the psychological state of the person. Therefore the choice of the rehab center is considered to be a very crucial factor as there are several instances of failure at the rehab centers which resulted unexpectedly because of the wrong choice of the rehab centers.

In this context the Malibu drug rehabilitation is a trusted name where the treatment facilities are considered to be the best throughout the world for the addiction patients. Therefore while making the choice of the rehab center it is essential to keep this thing in mind. Substance abuse treatment is the only real option for many people addicted to alcohol or drugs. Treatment can be done on an inpatient or outpatient basis and there are advantages and disadvantages to both types of treatment. Some programs are restricted to alcohol or other drugs, while other programs incorporate both alcohol and drugs into the same program.

Inpatient substance abuse treatment is more intense than the outpatient programs. The inpatient program can last for 30 days or can extend indefinitely, depending on the funding of the patient. People live in a confined setting and are monitored for detoxification. They are often prevented from leaving the program and they attend group and individual therapy during the day. They may have recreational programs but these are not part of the actual treatment. Inpatients work hard on their issues and try to find out the underlying problems that have contributed to their substance use. If they graduate from this type of program, they often go to outpatient therapy, AA or NA programs.

Outpatient substance abuse treatment is appropriate for those who don’t expect to have any problems with detoxification and who have a strong family support. Many outpatient programs are day programs, with the bulk of the day spent in various group therapies, family therapies and sometimes individual therapies. AA or NA is often part of outpatient programs and the individual is encouraged to find a sponsor. Outpatient programs can last for up to a month as well but it depends on the program and the funding of the abuser.

Some substance abuse treatment is directed solely at those addicted to alcohol. Issues around detoxification are addressed and medication can be prescribed which lowers ones risk of drinking again. There are even medications that control the urge to drink. Alcoholics can come together to discuss issues related to their alcohol use and are encouraged to attend AA and find a sponsor. Many patients are asked to attend alcohol treatment by a judge after they were arrested for a DWI or DUI. A court ordered alcohol treatment doesn’t share the same success as voluntary treatment.

There are some who believe that narcotic substance abuse treatment should be separate from alcohol treatment because the issues are so different. Narcotic users can be given medication to help with cravings. Users of other drugs have their own issues with withdrawal and learning to stay away from drugs. Those who use drugs, particularly narcotics, can transition into NA as an outpatient to get as much support for staying clean as possible.

The goals of substance abuse treatment are (1) the detoxification of the patient from their drugs of choice, (2) managing withdrawal symptoms, (3) learning new coping methods around drug abuse and (4) reintegrating into society without drugs. If the person doesn’t have a stable living situation or has a lot of friends who use and abuse drugs or alcohol, it will be more difficult for the individual to recover completely from substance abuse. This is why inpatient therapy is sometimes better for those who don’t have the family or other support they need.

A Comparative Study of Educational Adjustment of Disadvantaged Adolescents in Thailand and India (case Study in Northern)

The study was conducted with the objective of investigating the extent of educational adjustment and problems associated with achievement of disadvantaged adolescents in India and Thailand. The purpose of the study was to identify the educational needs of disadvantaged students in the age group of 13 to 16. A specially designed package of activities was used to discover the impact of intervention on educational adjustment of the selected sample of disadvantaged students professing difficulties in school related activities. The sample of the study consisted 125 (68 boys and 57 girls) disadvantages students from India (Northern Chenni Himmat Slum area in Jammu) and 125 from Thailand (70 boys and 55 girls) belonging to Ban Teresa, Winag Pa Pow, Chiang Rai province and Yong People Develop, Doi Sa Kuat, Chiang Mai province. The sample populations were drawn based on achievement scores on knowledge test. The selected students were subjected to an experimental design consisted of an intervention programme followed by guidance.

The facilitators were selected and received training in identifying adjustment problems and arrange suitable programmes. Questionnaires were administrated to the sample population to collect data on educational adjustment problems. A significant difference between boys and girls in control group after pretest was reported in Indian adolescents. There was no significant difference in the pre and post-test scores of Indian and Thai in educational adjustment. Commonality in educational adjustment of both Indian and Thai groups was reported

In many Northern states of India and Thailand, the educational adjustment and problems associated with achievement of Indian and Thai disadvantaged adolescents. There were neglect and need to improved the adjustment with understand by themselves, family, friends, and other people in there community and social, that, were suggested as; (1) both of them need become a good boys and girls, can thinks and can doing and can solve there problems in there future well-being of them. (2) There need to develop and include the adjustments education programme in the schools curriculums to improve them become a friendly relations to other people around of them. (3) Need to adjustment of developed, good attitude by themselves and other to being a good life in the future.
